Developing/Testing Mobile Websites

With the plethora of mobile device out on the web, designer and developers have a lot of decisions to make about providing web content for these devices.  Adaptive designs, Responsive designs, or a customized mobile website are just a few of the options.  This one-day boot camp will look at a number of different mobile design techniques and walk you through how to efficiently test your mobile content.  We’ll explore how media queries can be used to create responsive designs and how to adapt images for specific device features like the new iPad retina display.  We’ll also incorporate some device-specific jQuery content to increase usability for mobile users.  The whole time we’ll be covering different ways to test the content we’re creating on devices using a development server and Adobe Shadow.

Attendees should be familiar with HTML and CSS.  JavaScript experience is helpful, but not required.  If possible, attendees should bring their own computer with Google Chrome installed and their editor of choice (i.e. Dreamweaver, Notepad++, etc).  If you cannot bring a computer, we will provide one for you. If you have a smart phone or tablet, bring that too.  The more devices we have to test on, the more fun it will be!

This course is one full day of hands-on coding with HTML5, CSS3, and jQuery. You should have previous experience with HTML and CSS. The goal of this course is to get web designers ramped up on new features and familiarize them with syntax. We’ll focus on features that are useful in today's market, such as Audio, Video, Form Validation, new CSS3 styling rules as well as fallback solutions for older browsers. We will also explore how to incorporate jQuery into existing or future websites. Students will learn about the /syntax and create some unique jQuery interactions with photo galleries and widgets.
